In Committee from the Senate of Canada
National Defence – May 28, 2012 (Part 1 of 2)
National Security and Defence (May 28, 2012) Public Safety Minister Vic Toews discussed the portion of the budget bill that deals with maritime law enforcement operations between Canada and the United States. These measures aim to implement the joint program, known as Shiprider, that was signed by the two governments in May 2009. Previous efforts to implement the Shiprider legislation died on the order paper when the election was called in 2011. Minister Toews was accompanied by assistant deputy minister Richard Wex, and chief of border strategies Marc Taschereau. Bill Anderson from the University of Windsor continued the discussion during the second segment. UPDATE: Bill C-38 received royal assent on June 29.
