In Committee from the House of Commons
Public Safety and National Security - January 27, 2015
Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney responds to questions about the government’s bill (C-12) that targets drug use in federal prisons. The Drug Free Prisons Act will allow the Parole Board of Canada to cancel parole after it has been granted if an offender fails or refuses to take a drug test before he or she is released. The Parole Board would also be authorized to apply a special condition that requires offenders to abstain from drugs or alcohol once they are released on parole. If an offender fails to abide by this condition, parole may be revoked. MPs also hear from Correctional Service of Canada commissioner Don Head and Parole Board of Canada president Harvey Cenaiko.
