In Committee from the Senate of Canada
Legal and Constitutional Affairs - May 27, 2015
The committee begins its review of Bill C-26 with testimony from Justice Minister Peter MacKay and Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney. The bill would increase mandatory minimum penalties for sexual offences committed against children. It would also create a high-risk child sex offender database. Department of Justice Canada officials Carole Morency, Nathalie Levman and Matthias Villetorte, Safety Canada official Angela Connidis and RCMP deputy commissioner of specialized policing services Peter Henschel testify during the second hour. Senators then conduct their clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-2 in the last part of the meeting. The proposed legislation would establish criteria that must be met in applications for proposed supervised injection sites. (May 27, 2015) UPDATE: Bills C-2 and C-26 received royal assent on June 18.
