Bob Rae Recommends Canada Take Leadership Role in Rohingya Crisis
Bob Rae, Canada’s special envoy to Myanmar, speaks with reporters in Ottawa following the release of his final report on the Rohingya crisis. More than half a million Rohingya Muslims are estimated to have fled persecution in Myanmar since August 2017. The former Ontario premier and interim Liberal leader has made 17 recommendations to the Canadian government, which include listening to the Rohingya themselves, developing a multi-year funding plan, welcoming refugees, and establishing a Rohingya Working Group to ensure Canada’s effective response and leadership in the crisis.
