NDP MPs Seek Improvements to EI Sickness Benefits
Niki Ashton, NDP jobs, employment, precarious work and workforce development critic, and Brigitte Sansoucy, families, children and social development critic, hold a news conference calling on the government to reform the Employment Insurance Act and extend the maximum period for which sickness benefits may be paid, which is currently limited to 15 weeks. They are joined by cancer patient Marie-Hélène Dubé, who started a petition in 2009 to increase the benefits period. The petition has collected over 500,000 signatures. The two MPs are asked about the misconduct investigation involving their caucus colleague Christine Moore. (May 8, 2018) (no interpretation)
