2018 AFN Annual General Assembly - Styres and Boushie Families on Justice System
Six Nations Chief Ava Hill and the families of Jon Styres and Colten Boushie address delegates at the Assembly of First Nations 39th annual general assembly in Vancouver. Styres, a 29-year-old father of two and a member of the Six Nations, was fatally shot in February 2016 by an Ontario homeowner for allegedly trying to steal his truck from his driveway. Boushie was from the Red Pheasant First Nation. The 22-year-old was shot and killed in August 2016 by a Saskatchewan farmer for trespassing. The acquittals in both cases led to protests across Canada and calls for changes to Canada's justice system. (July 26, 2018)
