Senate Studies Impact of Gun Control on Rural Communities, Women and Suicides
National Security and Defence - March 18, 2019 - Part 1: Senators continue their study of Bill C-71, the government’s proposed changes to Canada’s firearms laws. The bill would require enhanced background checks, as well as require firearms retailers to record all their sales and inventories. The witnesses testify on the legislation’s potential impact on small rural communities, abuse towards women and the suicide rate. Appearing as witnesses are Fédération québécoise des chasseurs et pêcheurs’ Marc Renaud, Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities’ Ray Orb, Alberta Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association’s Gerald Ingeveld, Women's Shelters Canada’s Lise Martin, Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic’s Amanda Dale, and Brian Mishara as an individual.
