Govt Announces Measure to Reduce Commercial Driver Fatigue
At the headquarters of the Ontario Trucking Association in Etobicoke, Ont., Transport Minister Marc Garneau announces that electronic logging devices will be mandatory in all federally-regulated commercial trucks and buses by June 12, 2021. Stephen Laskowski, president of the Canadian Trucking Alliance and the Ontario Trucking Association, also makes remarks. The new regulation aims to reduce driver fatigue and will replace paper-based daily logbooks . It addresses a recommendation made by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service following the deadly crash in 2018 between the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team bus and a transport truck.
