PM Trudeau Attends African Union Meeting on Gender Equality
In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivers remarks at an African Union roundtable discussion on gender equality and women's empowerment in Africa. Trudeau is the first Canadian prime minister to attend a session of the African Union. The prime minister is visiting Ethiopia and Senegal as part of his official trip to Africa from February 6 to 13. He is looking to gain support from African nations for Canada's bid for one of two temporary available seats on the United Nations Security Council. Canada, Ireland and Norway are competing for a two-year term starting in 2021. The vote will be held this June at UN headquarters in New York City. (February 8, 2020) (no interpretation)
