Nunavut COVID-19 Update: Public Health Emergency Extended to June 11
In Iqaluit, Joe Savikataaq, the premier of Nunavut, provides an update on the territory’s response to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease). He is joined by Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut’s chief medical officer of health, Lorne Kusugak, minister of community and government services, and George Hickes, minister of finance as well as minister responsible for the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission. While there are no confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 in Nunavut, the territory's public health emergency has been extended to June 11. The Nunavut government announces a wage premium for eligible low-wage essential workers. Construction for capital projects valued at $600 million are scheduled to begin this summer in 19 communities.
