COVID-19: Ontario Announces New Province-Wide Limits on Social Gatherings
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces new province-wide limitations on the size of indoor and outdoor gatherings. Health Minister Christine Elliott and Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Ontario's associate chief medical officer of health, also take part in the announcement. Effective immediately, informal outdoor gatherings in the province are limited to 25 people, while indoor gatherings cannot exceed 10 people. The previous indoor limit was 50 people and 100 for outdoor gatherings. Restaurants, movie theatres, and other businesses are exempt from the new restrictions. Earlier in the week, the province moved to impose these same restrictions in Toronto, Peel Region, and Ottawa, which have all seen a growing number of COVID-19 cases in recent days. Their expansion to cover the entire province comes amid growing fears of a widespread second wave of COVID-19 cases. (September 19, 2020)
