Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil Announces New Restorative Justice Process
In Halifax, Stephen McNeil, the premier of Nova Scotia, delivers an apology on behalf of his government for the systemic racism in the province's justice system, and announces a new restorative process to transform the system. He is joined by Tony Ince, the minister of African Nova Scotian affairs, and Mark Furey, the provincial attorney general and minister of justice. Members of the design team for the restorative process also make remarks. The team is made up of community members, government officials and police officers. It will carry out its work over the next 12 to 18 months to determine what is required to support system and structural changes. Following the announcement, the premier speaks with reporters.
