NDP Proposes Excess Profits Tax Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill after discussing his party's tax measures that target the wealthiest Canadians and most profitable companies. One new proposal is a temporary excess profit tax for companies such as grocery stores that have profited during the COVID-19 pandemic. The NDP says this measure would double the tax rate on excess profits. Other previously-announced measures include a 1 per cent annual wealth tax for families with a net wealth above $20 million and taxing web giants. (October 8, 2020) (no interpretation)
