Conservative MPs, Doctors Raise Concerns About Medical-Assistance-in-Dying Bill
In a news conference on Parliament Hill, Conservative MP Michael Cooper, a member of the House of Commons justice committee, raises concerns about the consultation process for Bill C-7, the federal government’s revised legislation concerning medical assistance in dying. He is joined by Conservative MP Arnold Viersen, as well as Dr. Andrew Taylor. Also joining by videoconference are Drs. Stephanie Kafie, Philip Drijber, Jane Dobson, and Geoffrey Purdell-Lewis. They criticize the fact that many briefs from experts were rejected by the justice committee because they were not submitted before the November 12 deadline. Cooper says he will introduce a motion in front of the committee, aimed at making sure that more physician contributions are considered in the study of this bill.
