City of Montreal to Vaccinate Homeless People, Add Hospital Beds
At a news conference in Montreal, Dr. Mylène Drouin, the regional director of public health for Montreal, provides an update on the city’s response to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. She is joined by Valérie Plante, the mayor of Montreal, and Sonia Bélanger, the president and director general of the health and social services centre (CIUSSS) for Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. According to Sonia Bélanger, 310 hospital beds will be added to Montreal’s health-care system, as hospitalizations are reaching critical levels in most health establishments. Furthermore, 43 beds will be added into intensive care units. Dr. Drouin mentions that certain homeless people will receive the COVID-19 vaccine this week, as Montreal’s regional health authority has reported 114 cases of COVID-19 in this population since December.(January 13, 2021) (no interpretation)
