COVID-19: Canada Responds
Alberta Health Minister Provides Plan to Reduce Surgical Wait Times
Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro holds a news conference in Calgary to provide an update on the provincial government's efforts to reduce the backlog of elective surgeries that were postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He says provisions in Alberta's latest budget will provide funding for 55,000 more scheduled surgeries in the coming fiscal year in order to eliminate the backlog and to reduce surgical wait times. The minister is joined by Dr. Francois Belanger (vice-president, quality, and chief medical officer, Alberta Health Services) and Dr. Mohamed Nanji (president and CEO, Surgical Centres Inc., and medical director, Rockyview Surgical Centre).
