COVID-19: Canada Responds
Nova Scotia Re-Instates Isolation Rules For Travellers from New Brunswick
In Halifax, Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia's chief medical officer of health, and Premier Iain Rankin provide an update on the province's response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The premier announces that Nova Scotia is re-instating self-isolation rules for travellers from New Brunswick due to a spike in cases and the increased presence of variants in that province. As of 8 a.m. local time April 15, New Brunswickers arriving in Nova Scotia must self-isolate for 14 days. Nova Scotians returning to the province from New Brunswick will also have to self-isolate for two weeks. The premier also discusses the Atlantic Bubble, which he says is unlikely to re-open as scheduled on April 19. Rankin says he will be meeting this week with his fellow Atlantic premiers to discuss the future of the bubble, but at the moment they are leaning towards postponing the date to May. Originally announced on July 3, 2020, the bubble allowed residents of the four Atlantic provinces to travel freely between those jurisdictions without needing to self-isolate.
