COVID-19 in P.E.I. Update on Case at Charlottetown Daycare Centre
In Charlottetown, Dennis King, the premier of Prince Edward Island, and Dr. Heather Morrison, the chief public health officer of P.E.I., provide an update on the COVID-19 case involving a daycare worker in Charlottetown that was reported the previous day. The confirmed source of the case is travel related and there is no evidence at this point of widespread community transmission. Dr. Morrison says there are indications the daycare worker went to work while symptomatic. The 38 children attending the daycare and seven other staff members were asked to get tested and self-isolate for 14 days as they are considered close contacts. Seven other close contacts were identified and asked to get tested as well as self-isolate. As of the time of the provincial update, 35 children have been tested and their results are negative. The seven staff members have also tested negative. Of the seven household contacts, five have tested negative, one is positive, and one has yet to be tested. P.E.I. is also reporting two new COVID-19 cases involving individuals in their 20s. Both individuals have a history of travel outside of Atlantic Canada. One of the cases is connected to the daycare worker and it has been referred to enforcement. (May 14, 2021) (no interpretation)
