COVID-19: Canada Responds
Alberta To Lift COVID-19 Restrictions on July 1
At a news conference in Edmonton, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announces that the province will lift nearly all restrictions that are in place due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on July 1, as Alberta has reached its target to vaccinate 70 per cent of its eligible population with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. All remaining restrictions will be lifted, including the ban on indoor social gatherings. Isolation requirements for confirmed cases of COVID-19 and protective measures in continuing care settings may remain. The indoor mask mandate will be lifted, but masking may still be required in limited and specific settings. Alberta will become the first province to full reopen by Canada Day. The premier s joined by Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro, who announces that the province is accelerating second-dose eligibility. Effective immediately, anyone who received their first dose of an mRNA vaccine (either Pfizer or Moderna) in May or earlier can book their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
