June 24 and July 8, 2000
Telus Convention Centre - Calgary
THE CANDIDATES
Former Reform leader Preston Manning faced four challengers to lead the newly-formed Canadian Alliance: Former Alberta cabinet minister Stockwell Day, Ontario's Tom Long, who helped found the party, B.C. MP Keith Martin, and Ontario power worker John Stachow
THE VOTE
Polling stations were set up in most ridings, with telephone voting for the others.
Six leadership debates were held across the country in May and June.
Day falls short of a majority in the first round, necessitating another vote two weeks later in early July.
Long and Martin leave the race and endorse Manning. However, Manning's support rises less than one percent, leaving Day the clear winner.
