2026 Liberal Convention

2026 Liberal Convention

April 9-11: Follow CPAC's complete coverage as federal Liberals gather in Montreal for their first national convention since 2023 -- and their first with Prime Minister Mark Carney as party leader.

Carney is on the speaking agenda for Saturday afternoon. Other expected keynote voices include Rick Hansen, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne, and party president Sachit Mehra.

Liberals will also hear panel discussions, vote on party executive positions, and attend field training and workshops.

As well, they will consider policy resolutions, with 24 resolutions up for debate at the convention.

The list includes calls for the federal government to:

  • use federal disallowance powers on provincial laws that proactively invoke the Constitution's notwithstanding clause "before court challenges are exhausted"
  • ban social media accounts for children 15 and younger
  • toughen Canada's artificial intelligence (A.I.) laws
  • work to provide "universal, authentic access to primary care for all Canadians within 10 years"
  • adopt a ranked-ballot or runoff voting system for federal elections
  • create a Citizens' Assembly on proportional representation
  • enact a new Royal Proclamation and Covenant of Reconciliation to "re-define the nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous peoples"
