Career Opportunity: Journalist / Producer (Bilingual)

The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) is Canada's window on parliament, politics and public affairs. As Canada's only national, bilingual media outlet focused exclusively on politics, we are unique in the Canadian media landscape. We are seeking a dynamic, bilingual journalist / producer to contribute to our coverage of Canada's democracy in action.

THE ROLE

Based in Ottawa just steps from Parliament Hill, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to produce insightful public affairs content for CPAC's television and multimedia audiences. The successful candidate will form an integral part of our comprehensive daily coverage of Canadian politics, including political conventions and federal election campaigns, and may function at various times as a host, reporter, narrator or producer. This position requires proficiency in both English and French as the candidate may be asked to serve as an on-air personality and/or produce content in either official language.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce fact-checked dynamic and compelling content suitable for all platforms for CPAC's daily French and English shows;
  • Write stories and produce content for various media platforms, including digital and social media;
  • Work on-air and on digital content as host, reporter and narrator;
  • Contribute to story ideas and pitch story ideas to the editorial team;
  • Produce thirty to sixty-minute current affairs documentaries;
  • Prepare and write scripts, and arrange for and conduct interviews.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):

  • Undergraduate Degree in Journalism or Media Arts, or the equivalent combination of education and media experience;
  • Five years professional experience in broadcasting;
  • Excellent French and English language skills, with the ability to produce, narrate and host content in both English and French;
  • Understands and maintains current knowledge of the Canadian Political system, and of current and emerging issues and trends;
  • Understands the legislative and regulatory framework and organizations within the Canadian Broadcast System;
  • Excellent analytical and synthesizing skills; inquisitive, creative and self-starter;
  • Strong command of writing, interview and production techniques for TV and digital media; strong familiarity with various social media platforms;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Strong project management skills and experience;
  • Ability to work flexible, irregular hours and overtime as required.
