PM Trudeau on COVID-19 Recovery Deal, U.S. Border, WE Charity – July 16, 2020
At a news conference on Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland announce that the federal government will provide $19 billion to the provinces and territories as part of an agreement to assist with economic recovery from the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The prime minister also confirms that measures restricting non-essential travel across the Canada–U.S. border will be extended until at least August 21, 2020. Responding to questions from reporters, the prime minister and deputy prime minister also comment on the ongoing controversy related to a now-cancelled contract with WE Charity for the administration of a federal student grants program.
