COVID-19: Canada Responds
PM Trudeau on Housing, COVID-19 Fatigue, Byelections – Oct. 27, 2020
At a news conference on Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provides an update on the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined by federal ministers Ahmed Hussen (families, children and social development) and Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs), as well as Dr. Howard Njoo, Canada's deputy chief public health officer. The prime minister announces that the federal government is providing $500 million for municipalities to build long-term, affordable housing. The funding is part of the government's new $1-billion rapid housing initiative to create up to 3,000 new permanent, affordable housing units across Canada. The prime minister also comments on topics including the October 26 federal byelections and the COVID-19 fatigue that many Canadians seem to be experiencing amid a second wave of the virus.
