COVID-19: Alberta Declares Public Health Emergency – November 24, 2020
In Edmonton, Jason Kenney, the premier of Alberta, provides an update on the province’s response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined by Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Tyler Shandro, the provincial health minister, and Dr. Verna Yiu, CEO of Alberta Health Services. Premier Kenney announces that, in response to surging COVID-19 numbers, he is declaring a state of public health emergency. The province is also introducing a number of additional mandatory public-health measures, which include new restrictions on social gatherings, worship services, businesses and schools.
