COVID-19: Canada Responds
At Queen’s Park, retired general Rick Hillier, the chair of Ontario’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force, provides an update on the province’s vaccine distribution plan, including a projected timeline for the phased rollout of COVID-19 vaccines to Ontario residents. The first phase, already underway, includes vaccinations for long-term care residents, health-care workers, and residents of remote and vulnerable communities. The second phase, which is likely to begin in April 2021, will include a mass vaccination campaign in which older adults and essential workers expected to be prioritized; the province is hoping to have 8.5 million residents vaccinated by the end of the second phase. During the third phase, beginning in late summer 2021, the vaccine is expected to be available to all Ontario residents on demand.
