NDP Leader on PBO Report on Excess Profits Tax, Paid Sick Leave – April 27, 2021

At a virtual press conference, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh reacts to the parliamentary budget officer’s report on an excess profits tax. This report estimates that $7.9 billion in federal corporate income tax revenue would be generated if an additional 15 percent tax rate was applied to excessive profits earned by big companies in 2020 during the pandemic. Singh is joined by Jay Aaron Roy, a small business owner from Halifax. The NDP leader also discusses his call for better paid sick leave and faces reporters’ questions on the strike at the Port of Montreal. The federal government has tabled back-to-work legislation to end the labour dispute. More than 1,000 dockworkers began their strike on April 26. (no interpretation)
