PM Trudeau Announces Compensation for Families of Flight 752 Victims
At a news conference in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces that the Canadian government will give $25,000 per victim to families of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who died in the crash of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 in Tehran. The compensation is meant to assist with immediate expenses incurred by victims’ families. Fifty-seven Canadians were among the 176 people killed in the January 8 crash. Iran has admitted that it unintentionally shot down the plane, amid growing tensions with the United States. (January 17, 2020)
