Firearms in Alberta: Premier Kenney Announces Advisory Committee – June 3, 2020
In Edmonton, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announces the launch of a new committee to advise the provincial government on firearms regulation. The premier also discusses the establishment of a provincial firearms examination unit to speed up testing in criminal investigations. Brooks-Medicine Hat MLA Michaela Glasgo, who is chairing the committee, also takes part in the news conference, along with Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Doug Schweitzer. The announcement comes after the federal government’s decision, on May 1, 2020, to enact a ban on military-grade ‘assault-style’ weapons in Canada. Premier Kenney has said that the ban targets law-abiding gun owners and does little to prevent illegal gun activity. (no interpretation)
