WE Charity Affair: Conservative MPs on Ethics Committee Study – March 17, 2021
In a news conference on Parliament Hill, Conservative ethics critic Michael Barrett and industry critic Pierre Poilievre discuss the House of Commons ethics committee’s study of the WE Charity affair. The committee is examining the federal government’s awarding of a now-cancelled contract to WE Charity for the administration of a student grants program. Earlier in the week, the committee heard testimony from Craig and Marc Kielburger, the organization’s co-founders. Barrett and Poilievre are calling on PMO senior adviser Ben Chin, PMO policy Director Rick Thies, and senior policy adviser at Finance Canada Amitpal Singh to testify at the ethics committee. They also comment on COVID-19 vaccination and party unity ahead of the upcoming Conservative policy convention. (no interpretation)
