Governments Investing $45M to Save Montreal's Biosphere Museum – April 12, 2021
Steven Guilbeault, the federal minister of Canadian Heritage, Benoit Charette, Quebec's minister of the environment and minister responsible for the fight against racism, and Valérie Plante, the mayor of Montreal, hold a virtual news conference to announce $45 million in funding over five years to ensure the sustainability of the city's Biosphere museum. The federal, Quebec and Montreal governments will each invest $15 million over five years. The operations of the Biosphere will become a part of Montreal's Space for Life museum network. The future of North America's only environment museum has been uncertain due to a lack of funding, and it has been closed to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Plante also faces questions from reporters about the violent protest that was held the previous night against the city's new 8 p.m. curfew. (no interpretation)
