Finance – July 28, 2020 – Part 1:
Michelle Douglas, the former chair of WE Charity’s board of directors, faces questions from MPs about the WE organization and her reasons for resigning from her post. Douglas quit the organization in late March before the now-cancelled $900-million sole-sourced contract was awarded to the WE Charity Foundation.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Bill Morneau have both apologized for not recusing themselves from cabinet discussions concerning the contract despite the WE organization’s ties to their families. The prime minister and the finance minister are also facing probes by the federal ethics commissioner for potential violations of the Conflict of Interest Act.
