People’s Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier holds a news conference in Gatineau, Quebec, at the conclusion of his party's inaugural national conference. He discusses his policies and priorities for the upcoming campaign, as well as his exclusion from the federal leaders' televised debates. The Leaders’ Debates Commission says that Bernier does not meet all of the criteria in order to be invited to the October 7 and October 10 debates. He has until September 9 to make his case that he should be allowed to participate. Reporters also ask Bernier and Benjamin Dichter, cofounder of the group LGBTory.ca, about the latter's claims that political Islam has infiltrated both the Liberal and Conservative parties.
