Transport, Infrastructure and Communities (March 29, 2011) Air Canada executives and senior government officials discussed the closure of aircraft maintenance company Aveos Fleet Performance. The airline had provided Aveos with over 90 per cent of its maintenance work. President and CEO Calin Rovinescu told MPs that the airline was disappointed in Aveos' decision to close its Canadian operations, despite Air Canada's offer of emergency financing. Rovinescu also stressed that the carrier was in full compliance with the Air Canada Public Participation Act (ACPPA). The 1998 act requires Air Canada to keep maintenance facilities in Montreal, Mississauga and Winnipeg. Chief operating officer Duncan Dee spoke about the airline's priority to working with industry players to help Canadian aerospace workers. Transport official Kristine Burr and Justice representative Pierre Legault discussed whether Air Canada was in compliance with the ACPPA.
