Governor General Julie Payette grants royal assent to a number of bills during a ceremony in the Senate chamber. Among the bills receiving royal assent are C-21, the government's cross-border legislation, C-47, which will see Canada join the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, and C-51, which aims to strengthen sexual assault laws. This is the last royal assent ceremony to take place in the Senate Chamber before the temporary closing of Centre Block.
