In a news conference on Parliament Hill, Charlie Angus, the NDP critic for indigenous youth, raises concerns about the federal government’s handling of the case of a residential school survivor who alleges she was raped by a Department of Indian Affairs employee in 1971, when she was 15 years old. The government successfully argued in British Columbia Superior Court that the victim’s claim does not qualify for compensation under the terms of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement’s Independent Assessment Process.
