AFN National Chief Holds News Conference on Wet’suwet’en Protests
At a news conference in Ottawa, Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Perry Bellegarde and other First Nations leaders discuss ongoing protests that have been undertaken across Canada in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en Nation. Blockades have brought a halt to passenger and freight rail traffic in a number of locations nationwide. At the centre of the dispute is the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs’ opposition to the construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline that crosses their traditional territory in northern B.C.
