Funding Agreement Signed for Université de l’Ontario français
Mélanie Joly, the federal minister of economic development and official languages, takes part in the official signing of the funding agreement for the Université de l’Ontario français, the province's first French-language university. The location is also announced for the university, which is under construction in Toronto and is set to receive its first students in the fall of 2021. The minister is joined by Caroline Mulroney, Ontario minister of francophone affairs, Ross Romano, Ontario minister of colleges and universities, John Tory, the mayor of Toronto, and Dyane Adam, chair of the governing council of the Université de l'Ontario français. The ministers and Adam also speak with reporters after the signing ceremony. The federal government and province of Ontario reached an agreement on January 22, 2020, to fund the creation of the university. The Ontario government originally approved the university in 2017 but plans for the school were shelved shortly after the 2018 provincial election. (February 26, 2020) (no interpretation)
