COVID-19: Canada Responds
COVID-19 Update: Quebec Launches Campaign to Recruit 10,000 Orderlies for CHSLDs
In Quebec City, Quebec Premier François Legault provides an update on the province's response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined by provincial ministers Marguerite Blais (seniors and informal caregivers) and Jean-François Roberge (education and higher education). He announces that the Quebec government is launching its campaign to recruit and train 10,000 people to work as orderlies in the province's CHSLDs (long-term care centres). Applicants will be trained from June 15 to September 15. Quebec announced its plan for a recruitment campaign on May 27, the same day that it released a Canadian Armed Forces report concerning problematic conditions in several of the province’s CHSLDs. Over 1,000 CAF members have been deployed to 25 long-term care homes in Quebec to assist with staffing shortages during the pandemic.
