At a news conference in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveils his government's newest plan for Canada to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The prime minister is joined by ministers Jonathan Wilkinson (environment and climate change), Steven Guilbeault (Canadian Heritage), and Catherine McKenna (infrastructure and communities). The $15-billion plan includes the federal price on carbon rising to $170 per tonne by 2030, compared to the initial $20 level set for 2019. Rebates to households in affected provinces would continue, with payments moving from annual to quarterly installments as early as 2022. In November, the federal government introduced Bill C-12, legislation that establishes a framework for meeting emissions targets.
