COVID-19: Elementary Students' Return to Class Delayed in Southern Ontario
In Toronto, Dr. David Williams, Ontario's chief medical officer of health, and Dr. Dirk Huyer, coordinator of the provincial outbreak response, provide an update on the province's response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They present a recommendation for the resumption of in-person classes at elementary schools. Online learning will be extended to January 25, 2021, in the 27 Southern Ontario public health unit regions. Meanwhile, the lockdown in northern Ontario will be extended by two weeks to correspond with southern Ontario. Earlier in the day, Ontario Premier Doug Ford highlighted a 116-per-cent increase in the COVID-19 positivity rate among children aged 13 and younger compared to the rate recorded before the holiday season.
