COVID-19: Canada Responds
In a virtual news conference, federal ministers Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs), Anita Anand (public services and procurement), Bill Blair (public safety), and Patty Hajdu (health) discuss details of new measures being implemented at the Canadian border in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease). Mandatory testing at airports and supervised quarantine at a government-authorized hotel for air travellers arriving in Canada will take effect on February 22. As of February 15, non-essential travellers entering at land border crossings will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test from the previous 72 hours, or a positive test taken 14 to 90 days prior to arrival. Travellers arriving by land must also take two additional tests, as of February 22. The new measures come in response to growing concerns about the potential spread of highly transmissible COVID-19 variants.
