Anne Minh-Thu Quach
Anne Minh-Thu Quach is the daughter of Vietnamese boat people who settled in Quebec in the late 1970's. She became the MP for Beauharnois-Salaberry in May 2011. She is among a group of young NDP candidates who were elected in the wake of the Orange Wave that swept Quebec. Since her election, Anne Minh-Thu Quach has worked tirelessly to serve her constituents. She also became a mother during her mandate. For two days, CPAC followed this young and tireless politician in her riding.
Louis Plamondon
Louis Plamondon is the Dean of the House of Commons. This 30-year veteran of the Canadian parliament, who holds the record for longest-serving Francophone federal MP since World War Two, represents the constituents of Bas-Richelieu-Nicolet-Bécancour. First elected to the House as a Progressive Conservative, Louis Plamondon survived several challenges he faced as a member of the Bloc Québécois, a party he co-founded in 1991. He is currently one of only two MPS left in Ottawa representing this party in disarray. CPAC followed him around his Quebec riding.
Jacques Gourde
Located in in Quebec’s Chaudières-Appalaches region, the riding of Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière is 90% farmland. Jacques Gourde is very familiar with this area as he was born on a dairy farm in this very riding, which he has represented in the House of Commons since 2006. There is no doubt that this farmer-turned-politician is first and foremost a grassroots man committed to improving his constituents’ quality of life.
Françoise Boivin
Françoise Boivin is one of the best-known NDP Members of Parliament in Quebec. A lawyer and former Liberal who does not mince her words and has a passion for politics, Ms. Boivin is her party’s Justice Critic. Her most important role, however, is representing the citizens in the riding of Gatineau in the House of Commons. CPAC spends time with the parliamentarian in her riding. The program profiles a complete politician who speaks the same way she does politics – at a hundred miles an hour!
Pierre Luc Dusseault
He is currently the youngest MP ever elected to the Canadian House of Commons. Pierre-Luc Dusseault was 19 years old when he was elected by the constituents of the riding of Sherbrooke in the 2011 federal election. Today, the media hype surrounding his political debut has died down, which has allowed this young NDP MP to learn his new job both in Ottawa and back in his riding. We followed him for an entire day, in the field, to see how he is handling his duties.
Yvon Godin
CPAC journalist Sandra Landry spent two days with the NDP's Yvon Godin as he returned to his riding of Acadie-Bathurst in Northern New Brunswick for a number of activities. Godin was guest speaker at a volunteer appreciation night in the tiny seaside Acadian community of Lamèque, a participant in the "Walk for Autism" in Bathurst and a guest speaker in the celebrity roast of former Beresford mayor Raoul Charest. A former union representative for the United Steelworkers, Yvon Godin was first elected in 1997 during the Atlantic sweep by the NDP under Alexa McDonough. Godin is currently serving as his party's critic for Official Languages and Labour.
Ruth-Ellen Brosseau
During the May 2, 2011 federal election, the "orange wave that swept through Quebec led to Ruth Ellen Brosseau being elected as the NDP Member of Parliament for the riding of Berthier—Maskinongé. After having been the subject of various criticisms, she worked hard to prove that she is indeed able to fulfill her duties as an MP. She has drastically improved her French language skills, is much more familiar with her riding, and is currently her party’s deputy agriculture critic. CPAC spent one day with Ruth Ellen Brosseau around her riding.
Maria Mourani
Maria Mourani has been the Bloc Quebecois MP for the riding of Ahuntsic since 2006. She is the first woman of Lebanese and Arab descent to sit as an MP in the House of Commons and has written two books on street gangs. Ms. Mourani serves as the Bloc Quebecois Critic for Justice, Public Safety, the Environment, Transport, Infrastructure, Communities, Official Languages, the Status of Women and Human Rights. This MP works hard for her constituents, and is very focused on Bill C-452, which she introduced to fight human trafficking and sexual exploitation. CPAC spends the day with Maria Mourani.

Mauril Bélanger has been the Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier for 17 years. First elected to the House of Commons in 1995, the Liberal MP has been re-elected six times by the voters in this constituency located in the heart of the nation’s capital. This proud Franco-Ontarian and strong advocate for Canada’s linguistic duality has taken on a new role: Liberal Advocate for Co-operatives. This new role is just as important to him as serving his constituents. To find out what drives Mr. Bélanger, CPAC spent an entire day following him as he went about his various activities in the riding.
Alexandre Boulerice
The MP for the riding of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, Alexandre Boulerice is a rising star in the New Democratic Party. He wasted no time in making a name for himself in the House of Commons with his passionate style of questioning. In his riding of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, Alexandre Boulerice admits to having a more subdued approach when dealing with his constituents and the 400 community groups established there. In fact, he has committed himself to meeting each of them individually. We go down to the grassroots to meet a Member of Parliament with a passion for social justice and a slightly combative attitude.
Jean-François Fortin
Jean-François Fortin, the Bloc Québécois Member of Parliament for the riding of Haute-Gaspésie-La Mitis-Matane-Matapédia, takes his job very seriously. He sees his constituency office as the “front line” for helping people. In order to properly serve his fellow citizens, Mr. Fortin has made accessibility a top priority. However, this is not easy when you serve such a large region, and one which might further expand if revisions of federal electoral boundaries are approved. Danielle Young and her team followed Jean-Francois Fortin around this vast riding as he met with constituents.
Steven Blaney
Make no mistake, Steven Blaney's favorite playground is his riding, Lévis-Bellechasse-Les Etchemins. Even though the Conservative MP and Veterans' Affairs minister spends less time there these days due to his ministerial responsibilities, he clearly feels at home and quite happy to serve those who elected him. Mr. Blaney good-naturedly agreed to let CPAC following him as he toured his Quebec riding of Lévis-Bellechasse-Les Etchemins.
Nycole Turmel
Nycole Turmel is back in her Hull-Aylmer riding after having completed her mandate as NDP interim leader following Jack Layton’s passing. She resumes her work as an MP at the service of her fellow citizens. She loves that function above all others and feels quite at ease in it. On September 19, 2012, Danielle Young followed her around on site as she spent the day greeting the constituents of her Hull-Aylmer riding.
Justin Trudeau
CPAC visits Liberal MP Justin Trudeau in his riding of Papineau. The constituents in the riding of Papineau, located on the island of Montreal, are represented by an MP who often makes headlines across Canada and leaves no one indifferent. While Justin Trudeau’s work and statements in Parliament may be closely scrutinized, his work in the riding, serving his fellow citizens, mostly takes place under the radar. Mr. Trudeau carries out his duties in the riding with a mix of candour and passion while remaining approachable.
Pierre Nantel
Thanks to the « orange wave » that swept through Quebec on May 2nd, 2011, Pierre Nantel became the very first NDP MP for Longueuil Pierre-Boucher, a riding located on Montreal’s South Shore. This former television host, who has also worked for the Cirque du Soleil, is one of the NDP’s rising stars in Quebec. Clearly, Pierre Nantel has quickly figured out how to be a good member of Parliament. As we found out, he carries out his many duties in the riding with much candour and ease. CPAC spent an entire day with Mr. Nantel in his riding of Longueuil Pierre-Boucher.
When they are not on Parliament Hill, MPs often work long hours in their constituencies serving those who elected them. CPAC’s Danielle Young joins them in their ridings throughout Canada to see how their work impacts constituents at the grassroots level.
Maxime Bernier
Despite his involvement in various controversies, Conservative MP Maxime Bernier has been re-elected in the Quebec riding of Beauce several times since 2006, and often by an overwhelming majority of votes. Just when some people thought his political career was over, the Beauce MP bounced back and even became a minister once again. We followed Maxime Bernier for an entire day in his riding of Beauce, during a parliamentary break, to get a sense of his relationship with voters.
