The Walrus Talks Conversations About Canada : We Desire a Better Country The Walrus Foundation, in partnership with the Order of Canada and Canada 150, host a national tour focusing on the future of the country. The tour visits each province and territory over a three-month period, and features 50 Order of Canada recipients and 50 youth leaders. This week, the tour visits St. Jude's Cathedral in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit Whitehorse and Carcross, Yukon, on September 28, 2016. First, they visit the MacBride Museum of Yukon History in Whitehorse. Since the 1950s, the museum has been a traditional stop for members of the royal family touring Canada. The Duke and Duchess then participate in a community festival showcasing young talent on Main Street in Whitehorse. Later, they visit Carcross, Yukon, where they attend a traditional welcoming ceremony performed by members of the Tagish First Nation. Finally, the Duke and Duchess attend a mountain biking demonstration at Montana Mountain, near Carcross.
At Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport in Whitehorse, Yukon, on September 27, 2016, the Duke of Cambridge inspects the Canadian Rangers and Junior Rangers, of which he is an honorary member. At a press conference in Ottawa on June 22, 2016, Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi, Yukon Minister of Community Services Currie Dixon, and Yukon MP Larry Bagnell announce the signing of a bilateral agreement on infrastructure. The agreement will provide federal funds to Yukon municipalities for public transit and wastewater projects.
